So who is Rankin?
Ian Rankin OBE is a successful Scottish writer best known for his 17
novels based around Inspector Rebus, an Edinburgh based detective.
He was born in Cardenden in Fife in 1960 and following various
'careers' including taxman and swineherd became a fulltime writer in
the mid '80's. In 2002 he was awarded the OBE for services to
literature. He has honorary doctorates from four Universities and
continues to write.
