It’s only 3 weeks until Christmas and 4 weeks to go until the famous Hogmanay (New years eve) Street party here in Edinburgh! The Christmas market is in full swing, the Christmas songs are playing at every store and the mulled wine is flowing throughout the old town and new town. What exactly is Hogmany you may be wondering ? Well it’s a scots word for the last day of the old year & is synonymous with the celebrations that last up until the 2nd of January which is also a Scottish bank holiday. So what can you expect from your Hogmanay experience in Edinburgh ?
The Torchlight procession on the 30th, a ticketed event where you can buy a torchlight and parade through the town after dark with everyone else. It’s a beautiful event either just as a spectator or by taking part, you then light a candle at the end of the event in holyrood park that will be part of a bigger image that will be revealed at the end of the night.
The Edinburgh Street Party on the 31st, famous throughout Europe and the World. Although most of the tickets are sold out for premium access there are still some tickets left for street access where you will be able to bring in the bells with your friends and family while watching the beautiful firework display over Edinburgh Castle and listening to some great music.
Loony Dook 1st Jan, After you enjoy your cooked breakfast at Ard Na Said Guest House, it’s time to throw on your swimsuit and head on down to south Queensferry high street. Time to jump in the Firth of Forth and wash away that hogmany hangover and start the year with an adrenaline rush.
