New restaurants we’ve tried in January / February

So, as you already know, restaurants in Edinburgh are always popping up and it can be so hard to chose from the thousands of restaurants that are available.

Ard Na Said has decided that we’re going to share all of our favourite restaurants with you guys to try and help you make those tough decisions of where to eat when in Edinburgh. Over the past couple of months we’ve tried the following restaurants and we highly recommend them !

1) The Spence, Gleneagles Townhouse https://gleneagles.com/townhouse/eat-drink/the-spence/

A beautiful building with lots of history, this old bank of Scotland building has been transformed into an opulent townhouse hotel from the world renowned Gleangles group, bringing their hospitality to the city.
The Spence restaurant situated on the ground floor is stunning, with the show stopping dome in the centre of the ceiling and the exquisite decor alone its worth visiting just for that. But the food is equally beautiful, on this occasion we went on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy their Sunday roast and it did not disappoint. there is a large drinks selection, and the food menu offers enough choice for everyone to find something they are going to love.
it can be on the pricier side but i’d say the food, decor and service are well worth it.

2) Kora by Tom Kitchin https://korabytk.com

A new venture from Tom Kitchin & Wife Michaela in Bruntsfield. an amazing selection of starters and mains all using local produce and allowing you to discover the beauty of Scottish cuisine. The drinks list was also abundant and we were very cosy in a corner booth of this beautifully decorated restaurant. The staff are knowledgeable about the dishes and a pleasure to talk to, a very friendly atmosphere and in a part of town that not too many tourists go to so why not discover a new part of Edinburgh and enjoy a nice meal at the end of your adventure. Varies from mid range to pricier depending on what you order

.

3) Duck & Waffle https://duckandwaffle.com/edinburgh/

A classic in London and now here in Edinburgh. Although the restaurant in London may amaze with the skyscraper views, the restaurant in Edinburgh manages to amaze with the fun interior and design ideas, unique dishes to the Edinburgh restuarant and the fun and friendly staff. The potion sizes for the main courses are massive, we were a group of 4 and got 3 starters to and 3 mains to share and I think we could off done with one main course less, but we had to try as much as we could. The music was fun and it was overall a fun experience, can be a little loud sometimes so maybe not for everyone but we enjoyed it as something different and new to the Edinburgh scene.

4) UMI Japanese cuisine https://umiedinburgh.com

We came across this restaurant one day while we were out for a walk and it was the beautiful aesthetic of the restaurant that attracted us, but it was the beautiful fresh food that we stayed for. They have all of your typical sushi and sashimi options, ramen dishes, fried foods ( the soft shell crab was delicious) and they have wagyu beef that you can cook yourself on a hot stone. we went on a Sunday evening and it was full of life, the inside is reminiscent of a restaurant in Tokyo, however with a lot more space. The staff were very friendly and we had a great time here. With its location just next to Edinburgh University its very central and easy to access for everyone, the prices were also very reasonable and you could make your meal as cheap or as expensive as you wanted depending on what you ordered but will still receive the same great service and get to enjoy the beautiful interiors.
